UPCOMING OFFICIAL STLPHC EVENTS

Notes from the President

Just a few items to cover this week.  Kickoff Party on January 20th at 026 Biergarten.  Raffle tickets still on sale for the drawing on January 20th.  If you would like to help us sell some tickets, contact Jane Ellen at charity.stlphc@gmail.com.  Don’t forget, these can be sold to non-club members.  If you want to take a stack of 10 and get all your PHriends in on the action, let her know.  Any money above and beyond the payout will go to St. Patrick Center.
The following was shared with me, and I thought it was fitting given the time of the year.

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through Key West,
Not a creature was stirring, not even the houseguest.
No stockings were hung by chimneys this time,
No need for a chimney in the Southernmost clime.

Tourists were nestled all snug in their beds,
While tunes from the Conch Train danced in their heads.
Mama in her Kino's and I in bare feet,
Settled down with mojitos for a sweet Christmas treat.

When out in the harbor there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my hammock to see what was the matter!
Out to the porch I stumbled through clutter,
Cranked open the jalousie and threw up the shutter.

The moon through the palm trees beamed galore,
And gave a luster of midday to the cruise boats offshore.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh with eight tiny Key deer.

With a little old driver, so quick to honk,
I new in a moment it must be St. Conch.
More rapid than powerboats, his Key deer flew,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called to them, too.

Now, Mira! Now Lewis! Now Bethel and Curry!
On Wardlow! On McCoy, On Spotswood.... HURRY!
From the end of North Roosevelt, to the foot of Duval,
Now, dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

Like banana leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with a sunset, there up in the sky.
Up to my widow's walk the Key deer they flew,
With a sleigh full of mangoes, and ole St. Conch too.

And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof,
The disco-like beat of each tiny hoof.
As I drew in my head and was turning around,
Down the gumbo limbo, the ole conch came with a bound.

On his shoulder he carried an iguana with warts;
Wore a souvenir T-shirt and little red shorts.
He wore flip-flops and sported a palm frond chapeau,
Carried a Pina Colada with an umbrella to go.

He was puffing away on a Cuban cigar,
Blowing rings toward Havana, over the bar.
Even though his get-up made me think, "Yikes!"
His snowy white beard said "Hemingway Look-Alikes".

A bundle of coconuts he held with great care,
So he looked like a vendor from Mallory Square.
His eyes how they twinkled! His slow Southern drawl,
Revealed he'd been bar-hopping down on Duval.
He worked fast and furious, without a flub-a,
Leaving little presents, for each and every Bubba.
Then laying a finger aside his sunburned nose,
Giving a big nod, up the gumbo limbo he rose.

He sprang to his sleigh and his Key deer they fled
Right up U.S.1 toward Homestead.
And I heard him exclaim as he soared past Key West Bight,
Merry Christmas to all, have a happy Conch night.

Compliments of Ms. Karen Rohlfs
Central Texas Parrot Head Club

The following was shared with me to pass on to the club.  If anyone is interested, it looks like a good time!

All parrot head club members have an exclusive opportunity to purchase a special VIP ticket for the biggest parrot head event of the year - Island Fever Showcase!  Copy & paste this link -http://islandfevershowcase.com/vip to make your purchase now!

Make no mistake - Island Fever Showcase will be the event that you want to attend in 2018!  Sponsored by the Isle of Iowa PHC (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), this incredible music event will be held at the historic Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa over Labor Day Weekend 2018.   Trop Rock music’s biggest names will be performing for the first (and likely only) time ever on the very stage where Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens & J.P. ‘The Big Bopper’ Richardson performed for the very last time.  Designated by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a Rock & Roll Landmark, the Surf Ballroom is one of the most iconic stages in American music history.  Trop rock music has never graced such an iconic & sacred stage; musicians, fans & promoters of the genre all agree that this very well may be Trop Rock’s greatest moment and we sure hope you want to be a part of it!

These VIP tickets are extremely limited and include a reserved seat (at a table) on the actual ballroom floor right behind the dancing section. In addition to your seat, you will also receive a special laminate event badge & a cool Bling Bag filled with a variety of treasures. These tickets are $125 ($130 with all fees included) per person and are extremely limited in number.  Now is your opportunity to purchase one!

Simply paste this link http://islandfevershowcase.com/vip into your browser & you will be directed to our club’s on-line Paypal link to make your purchase.  Don’t delay because these special tickets will sell out quickly!

For those not yet ready to act, you will be able to purchase a two-day General Admission ticket directly through the Surf Ballroom Tickets (beginning December 15 for $90 per person.  They do not include any of the special “perks” that you get with the VIP ticket & do not include a reserved seat.

This is going to be a special, once-in-a-lifetime event so you need to add it to your must do list for 2018.  The entertainment line-up will include Donny Brewer (2017 Entertainer of the Year) along with many, many more of your favorite musical artists.  Suffice it to say that everyone wants to play the Surf Ballroom!  We will be making some additional announcements about the line-up in the next week so keep your eyes & ears open (but don’t wait to buy tickets)!  It will be an epic line-up!

Please refer to this link (or copy & paste)...
Island Fever Showcase FAQ for more general information about this special event!  And, if you have any questions (or issues with the ticket purchase link), do not hesitate to contact me (Bart Mason) at 319-930-2833 (phone or text) at any time.

A few notes as we wind down the year:
Due to slow Raffle ticket sales, we are extending the raffle sales until the membership kickoff party on 1/20/2018. Because the drawing will not be held on 12/2/2017 as planned, anyone who purchased a raffle ticket is eligible for a refund if they do not want to wait until the drawing on 1/20/2018.  Please note: if you accept a refund, your ticket will be removed from the drawing and you will not be eligible to win.  Please remember that any proceeds above the prize payouts goes to St. Patrick Center.  Let me know if you have any questions.

It is almost 2018 so we need to kick it off in a big way.  Make sure to mark your calendars for January 20th for our Kickoff Party at 026 Biergarten.

Keep an eye out for our new website!  We are revamping our website to make it easier to use and maintain.

Above all, thank you for helping make this a great year.  We had a great time and helped some great causes!

Don’t forget to tag anything you want shared with the club with #STLPHC.  This will help us track everyone’s club related posts.  If anybody has any questions about this email Brandi at Social.stlphc@gmail.com.

Check out the 4th Quarter edition of the St. Louis Parrot Head Dispatch.  If you ever have an event, article, recipe, anything that you think the members of the club would enjoy, email Brenda at stlphcnews@gmail.com.
