Notes from the President

Hello PHriends!!  I had a great time supporting the CCPHC at their Spring PHling this weekend.  Great job!  To all that attended, I hope you are recovering well.  PHIP is doing a fundraiser for the scholarship fund.  Check out the details below.  Looks to be a really cool prize.  Not much more to say this week.  So...everyone be well!

We are supporting VFW Post 805 in O'Fallon IL by participating in their .1K Fun Run. Yes, you read that right! The race is about one city block and you walk/run/crawl at your own pace. To ensure that you get the complete race packet with the really cool T-shirt, race bib, and race window decal you should be sure to register during early registration, which endsMarch 18. For more information and to register, visit http://www.vfw805point1k.com/

Parrot Heads in Paradise have been awarding qualified parrot heads and their children a total of $10,000 in scholarships every year for the last 10 years. Fundraising has been just keeping pace with our pay-outs each year and we want to add some additional funds to ensure future years’ have adequate funding.  To make sure that we can continue to award these gifts well into the future we have come up with a great way to help that cause. Windjammer cruises has donated a cruise for two to raffle off this year.  We will be selling tickets via PayPal or check starting today.   We will draw for the cruise Saturday, November 3rd from the stage at Meeting of the Minds for the seven night cruise on this beautiful boat.  Winners do not need to be present at MOTM to win the cruise!  Tickets are five for $20 or five dollars for one. I will send you via email with a list of your numbers so you have them for your records.  I will be tracking the name and numbers of every ticket coming in and they will all be in Key West for the drawing.  You can pay via PayPal - https://www.paypal.com/home to PHiPscholarshipraffle@yahoo.com (Please click on the friends and family link) or send your check to David Cohen, 6986 Samantha Court Wheatfield, NY 14304 (checks payable to Parrot Heads in Paradise).  Checks will only be accepted up until MOTM registration closes on September 15th. If you are mailing a check please send your email address if you want your numbers emailed to you.  When you get to MOTM you may purchase additional tickets right up until 2:30 pm on Saturday.  Below is what the cruise is all about.  Thank you in advance for your support of the wonderful cause.

***PLEASE RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP.  YOU WILL NO LONGER RECEIVE THE LANDSHARK LEDGER AFTER JANUARY 31 UNLESS YOU HAVE RENEWED YOUR MEMBERSHIP FOR 2018.***

Thank you everyone who came out and helped us kick off the 2018 year!  We had an awesome turnout.  Our charity numbers are below for the event.  Awesome job!  Thank you to Terry, Brenda, and Catfish for some awesome music.  If you have renewed your membership, I will start sending out the ledger to 2018 members near the end of this month.  It was great seeing everyone.  Keep an eye on your emails  and the Facebook page for more details on future events!

From the Charity Directors:
~ We definitely "partied with a purpose" at the 2018 kick-off party! Bob was the winner of the 50/50 and took home $267.50. John won a gift basket.

Drumroll, please... the winners of the Holidaze raffle: $50 to Betty, $50 to Rod, $100 to Ken R, $100 to Ken H, $200 to Judy B, $200 to Teresa, $300 to Judy R, $500 to Angie and $1500 to Laura! Collectively, $500 was donated back to the charity. The raffle proceeds of $180 will benefit St Patrick Center. Additionally, St Patrick Center benefited $1675 from the silent auction as did the Lone Palm Foundation for hurricane relief.

We also collected 1088 diapers valued at $163.20 as well as $20 in cash. I'm sure Circle of Concern will appreciate our donation!
